Clothing terminology comprises the names of individual garments and classes of garments, as well as the specialized vocabularies of the trades that have designed, manufactured, marketed and sold clothing over hundreds of years.
Ranks of the terminology of clothes Arcane Watchet (a pale blue color name from the sixteenth century), the daily life (t-shirt) and changes over time in response to fashion which in turn reflects social trends, artistic and political.
Despite the constant introduction of new terms for fashion designers, apparel manufacturers and marketing, the names of the various types of garments Basic English is very stable over time. Dress, shirt / skirt, dress and cape are all penalized back to medieval times.
Bata (medieval Latin gunna) was a basic clothing term for hundreds of years, referring to a garment hanging shoulders. Costume medieval and Renaissance England in a loose garment worn by men and women, sometimes short, often more than ankle length, with sleeves. For the dress of the eighteenth century had become a standard term in the category for a woman's dress, a meaning which he held until the mid-twentieth century. Only in recent decades has lost this suit general significance for clothing. Today long-term clothing is rare, except in special cases: Academic dress or cap and gown, evening gown, gowns, shirts, and so on (see Gown).
The shirt and skirt are the same word, the first is the south and according to preliminary north in early Middle English. As shirt is becoming a specialized term in Britain, but retains its general meaning in the United States (see the shirt).
Shield is still a term for street clothes, the essential meaning of the last thousand years (see coat).
Names for new styles or fashions in clothes are often false intentional designers or manufacturers of clothing, including some Chanel Black Dress (a term that has survived) and clothing style Lanvin (not shown). Other terms are of a darker color.
Styles of clothing are often the names of people? Often with a military connection:
The jacket and shirt of Garibaldi Garibaldi had bright red woolen garments for women or blacks with embroidery details and braided military People in 1860, is the name of the Italian revolutionary Giuseppe Garibaldi, who visited England in 1863.
The Eisenhower jacket or "Ike" is a waist-length jacket, jacket military origins of World War II. Called the "Jacket, Field, Wool, M-1944" What was commissioned by then-General Dwight Eisenhower, as a new field jacket for U. S. Forces in Northern Europe. The jacket is based on the Battle Dress Jacket 'British Army' in the same period.
The jacket is a cardigan or button-front created to keep British troops in the heat winters of Russia. It is named after James Brudenell, 7th Earl of Cardigan, who led the charge of the Light Brigade in the Crimean War (1854).
Mao jacket is very clear (often gray), turtleneck, fleece jacket usually worn by Mao Zedong and the Chinese people during his regime. Monotonous design and uniformity was a reaction to differences on pre-revolution clothing, silk dress with elites developed, while the working poor were dressed very difficult.
The jacket is Nehru jackets uniform, without lapels or collars, made popular by Jawaharial Nehru, first Prime Minister of independent India.
Another fertile source for clothing is able to put names, which generally reflect the origin (or supposed origin) of a trend. Modern terms, such as shorts, Hawaiian shirts, and sweaters Fair Isle are the latest in a long line to return to Holland (linen), damask (from Damascus), Polonaise ( "the fashion of Polish Women"), Jersey (Jersey in origin), clothing, balaclavas, Mantua and jeans ( "Serge after the city).
Costume historians, in contrast, with a forecast of "point view, require that the names of the styles of clothes that were not used (or lack thereof), when the styles were actually spent. For example, the neck is the Van Dyke reminder of his appearances in the seventeenth century portraits by Anthony Van Dyck, Watteau and the folds of her dress named after its appearance in the portraits of Antoine Watteau.
Same so, the terms Astoria can be applied to entire classes of clothing apparel, corset so that it applies to any clothing that is called or left a couple of bodies, until the eighteenth century corset word. And the dress is now applicable to every woman's head consists of a blouse and skirt, although most of its history of evening gown, I just wanted to say, or a full dress with appropriate accessories.
A notable trend in the change of the century is "cute" short forms: camisole cami becomes, sweaters and sweatshirts are hooded sweatshirts, and since 2005, short or "contraction", cardigans are cardia.
The vibration period very old "slip" most likely a false shirt unique.
