What should I bring my friend sweet sixteen?

My friend has a teenager, unless I am accustomed to go to East Indian-style traditional where I wear the dress of India, but now this one of its western and I have to bring something fresh Sixteens normal for what is the norm? I know he will wear a dress, do not know how formal should be ... must be like I'm on the prom? or may be more mod and retro, as it can print something shaved or not? Please Help Thank You:)
