What color and type of socks should I wear with brown leather shoes?

I started dating a girl and I want to impress her with my sense style. I'm taking to Chicago all day Saturday. I use a brown shirt and white shorts and brown leather shoes. White socks are not going well. But you can not wear socks khaki or brown suit with sneakers. What is the right choice?

With shorts if you think you should wear socks the heel. that does not look never good (at least for me) When the men in shorts with socks than shoes. Just remember me as the children dressed in elementary school and trust me I do not want to think that his days) Best of luck!
